Climate

¡¡Remember!!

Climate is not the same as weather.

Weather is the temperature, precipitation and wind at a particular time and place.

Climate is the typical temperature and precipitation in a particular place BUT over a long period of time.

We can divide the Earth into 3 different climate ZONES depending on the amount of heat each zone receives from the Sun, as you can see in the following picture...

Nevertheless, there are a lot of different climates on the Earth.

For example......

-Places near the Equator have a hotter climate than those further from the Equator.
-Mountains have colder climates and coasts have hotter climates.

THE TROPICAL ZONE: Places located in this zone have hot climates

Near the Equator, temperatures are high and it rains a lot. There are a lot of forests
Further from the Equator, it rains less, so there is less vegetation. There are a lot of savannahs.
In places like deserts, it rains less, so there is little vegetation.

      DESERT

THE TEMPERATE ZONES: There are two temperate zones, and the climates there are temperate, nor too hot nor too cold.

Climates in these zones vary, and the four seasons are different.

Typical vegetation in these zones is woodland and grassland.

THE POLAR ZONES: There are two polar zones. Places located there, have cold climates with little precipitation, mainly as snow.

Typical vegetation is tundra, where only moss and grasses grow.
